A heavily armoured officer successfully opened the door of the car at around 11:30 a.m.

The key of the car is still in the ignition, Const. Tony Vella said.

Police were trying to determine who the car is registered to.

Toronto police were not evacuating buildings in the area as of 11:20 a.m., a Toronto police officer at the scene told CBC’s Mike Crawley. Six cruisers are on the scene.

The stretch of road that is closed includes a number of prominent buildings, including the CSIS building, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the Canadian Broadcasting Centre.

Two black luggage bags could be seen outside the building on 277 Front St. W. A dark-coloured Saab sedan was also parked by the bags.

Police took what appeared to be X-rays of the luggage with a robotic camera, Crawley reported.
